Rabbit Fun Facts

April 2, 2022/in Uncategorized /by Christy Beving

Easter is here … so we want to make a fun article this month on FUN FACTS on RABBITS!
Rabbits can make a great pet and can also have quite the personality! They can make a great companion and have some pretty fun behaviors to watch. Bunnies can be very affectionate and bond closely with their human, some will even come when they are called! Rabbits also love to play and require mental stimulation just like dogs and cats. And like cats, rabbits can be trained to use the litter box, which makes helps to keep their cage clean.
  • A female rabbit is called a “doe” and a male rabbit is called a “buck” … just like deer
  • Also like deer, rabbits can really JUMP… in fact they can hop a little over 3 feet high and 10 feet long
  • Rabbits are social animals, and most want other rabbits around for companionship … so if you adopt one, you may want to think about getting two
  • Bunnies live an average lifespan of 5 to 10 years, but the oldest living rabbit broke the Guinness World Record at the ripe old age of 17
  • Rabbits are known for liking vegetables, like carrots and cabbage. However, most rabbits have a “sweet tooth” and also love fruit
  • Their eyes are positioned on the sides of their heads, which allows them to see 360 degrees
  • Their big ears aren’t just for listening, they also help to regulate the rabbit’s body temperatures, their ears’ blood vessels swell when it’s hot out, and contract when it’s cold
  • They also can rotate those ears to almost a full circle, 270 degrees
  • To express happiness, bunnies sometime jump around and flick their heads and feet
  • Rabbits actually make a lot of sounds like growling, screeching, chattering their teeth, and even honking
  • Rabbits need large cages or exercise pens kept indoors for health, safety and socialization. They require daily supervised time outside of their cages or pens to play and exercise

A bunny rabbit may make a great pet for your and your family. Check your local humane society, there may be a bunny there looking for the perfect home!
